About this test
Two more of the five canonical rule types identified in Carpenter, Just & Shell's (1990) foundational task analysis of the real Advanced Progressive Matrices, completing the full taxonomy this category has been building since -001: Distribution of Three (three distinct values of an attribute must appear exactly once in every row and column — a Latin-square constraint) and Distribution of Two (only two values are distributed per row/column, so the solver must first work out which value is missing before completing the pattern — Carpenter, Just & Shell's own analysis found this the single strongest predictor of item difficulty across the whole test). Genuinely distinct from -001's within-cell transformations, -002's positional-index rules, and -003's cross-cell figure combination: this is set-completeness reasoning — working out which value a row or column is missing, not transforming or combining figures.
