Psychotechnical test (test psicotécnico): what it means in hiring and how to practice
Reviewed: October 2026
In Spanish-language hiring, when a company asks you to take a “test psicotécnico” (a psychotechnical test), it almost always means timed aptitude tests: numerical, verbal, abstract or figural and spatial reasoning, plus attention to detail. Sometimes a personality questionnaire is added. This guide explains what to expect, what it is not and how to practice the format with original exercises.
What companies usually call a psychotechnical test
In company hiring processes, “psychotechnical test” is the name usually given to a set of aptitude tests. Each part sets short problems you solve by reasoning, not with knowledge from a degree. The exact name, the parts and their order vary by company and role.
- Numerical reasoning: number series, simple calculations and problems with data.
- Verbal reasoning: analogies, relationships between words and short texts with comprehension questions.
- Abstract or figural reasoning: series and matrices of figures in which you must find the rule.
- Spatial reasoning: shapes that rotate, fold or combine.
- Attention to detail: comparing codes, lists or records and spotting the differences.
- Sometimes, a personality questionnaire: it describes how you tend to act at work and has no right answers.
Formats and how it is given
It can be online, from home through a link the company sends you, or in person, at an office or an assessment room. Either way each part usually has a time limit, and the questions usually get harder as you go.
Read the instructions and the opening examples calmly: they tell you how much time you have, whether you can go back and whether a blank answer counts differently from a wrong one. If something is unclear, ask before you start and confirm the details in your invitation.
How to practice here
On this site you can practice those same kinds of reasoning with original exercises. Every test has a practice mode, which shows you the correct answer and an explanation after each question, and an exam mode, which gives no hints until the end, as in a real test.
Once you know the format, take the full mock exam, which combines several categories under time, and check your profile report, which orders your practice by the job type you choose. Practice helps you recognize the type of question and manage your time, but it does not promise you a result. The guide “Does practice improve your hiring test score?” sums up what research says about this.
What it is not
A hiring psychotechnical test is not a diagnosis or a clinical assessment: it is a stage of the process in which the company looks at how you solve certain kinds of problems at a given moment.
There are no psychological tests on this site. There are only original reasoning exercises to practice with, and your practice stays saved in your browser.
What this guide does not cover
This guide is about company hiring processes and does not cover civil-service competitive exams, driver's license exams or entrance tests for the armed forces or the police.
How it differs from the evaluación psicolaboral
The evaluación psicolaboral is the full process run by a psychologist: it usually combines an interview, reasoning tests and personality questionnaires, and ends in a report for the company. The psychotechnical test is usually just the aptitude-test part, either within that process or as a separate online stage before the interviews.
If you were invited to a full process with a psychologist, also read the guide “Evaluación psicolaboral”.
Practice this here
Practice here the kinds of reasoning that usually appear in a psychotechnical test: number series, verbal, spatial and abstract reasoning, attention to detail and quantitative aptitude. They are original exercises, not copies of real tests or of restricted tests.

Frequently asked questions
What is a psychotechnical test?
In hiring, it is the name companies usually give to a set of timed aptitude tests: numerical, verbal, abstract and spatial reasoning, plus attention to detail. Sometimes it includes a personality questionnaire.
Can you practice for a psychotechnical test?
Yes. Practicing with similar formats helps you recognize the type of question and manage your time. It does not change your underlying ability or assure you a result, but it keeps the format from catching you off guard.
How long does a psychotechnical test take?
It depends on the company and how many parts it includes, so there is no standard length. The invitation or the opening instructions usually state the time for each part; if they do not, ask before you start.
Is it the same as an evaluación psicolaboral?
No. The evaluación psicolaboral is the full process run by a psychologist, with an interview and several instruments. The psychotechnical test is usually just the aptitude-test part.
What happens if I do not finish in time?
It depends on each test. In many of them the time is tight on purpose, so not finishing does not by itself mean you did badly. Keep a steady pace, do not spend too long on a single question and check the instructions to see whether it pays to answer everything or leave blank what you do not know.
