TestGorilla: what to expect and how to practice

Reviewed: October 2026

TestGorilla is a platform employers use to build a custom assessment from several short tests. Each employer picks the tests, so what you get depends on the role: most cognitive tests run about 10 minutes and are multiple choice. The most reliable source is your invitation, which lists the tests and the estimated time.

How a TestGorilla assessment works

The company builds an assessment by combining tests from the platform's library and, depending on its plan, its own questions. You get a link by email and answer in your browser. Because each employer decides the mix, two people applying for different roles can see very different assessments.

That is why there is no single "TestGorilla exam". What stays stable is the shape of each individual test: a time limit, multiple-choice questions and a visible timer.

Test types you may meet

The platform's public library groups its tests into categories. According to its test library page, these include cognitive ability (17 tests), behavioral, personality and culture, language, situational judgment, software, programming, typing speed and role-specific skills.

  • Cognitive ability: verbal, numerical, abstract and spatial reasoning, problem solving, critical thinking, attention to detail and understanding instructions.
  • Personality and culture: questionnaires about how you usually act and what work environment you prefer; there are no correct answers.
  • Situational judgment: workplace scenarios where you choose the most appropriate reaction.
  • Role skills: specific knowledge (for example, software or a programming language).

Typical length

In the public library, most cognitive tests list about 10 minutes. A few are slightly shorter or longer (for example, 9 minutes for problem solving and 12 for critical thinking or textual attention to detail).

Total time depends on how many tests the employer adds: according to the platform, an assessment can combine up to five tests, though this depends on the company's plan. Plan an uninterrupted session and check the estimated time shown before you start.

Anti-cheating measures

The platform publishes a candidate honesty policy and describes several measures: employer accounts require a business email (so it cannot be used as a study aid), questions and answers are kept hidden, repeat attempts are detected, and behavior signals such as leaving full screen or turning off the webcam when one is required are logged.

These signals are rated by risk level and, according to the platform, they indicate behavior rather than proof of cheating. Still, avoid leaving full screen, keep your webcam on if asked, and do not use AI assistants or outside help unless the employer explicitly allows it.

How to prepare honestly

Because the platform does not offer the real tests for study, useful preparation is about format, not content: getting used to answering against a clock, deciding when to skip a question and staying focused for about 10 minutes at a stretch.

Sleep well the night before, use a computer with a stable connection, close other tabs and read each test's instructions calmly. On personality tests, answer consistently with how you actually are; there is no ideal answer to guess.

Practice this here

You will not find TestGorilla's tests or copies of them on this site. You can, however, practice the same kind of timed reasoning with original exercises, so the format feels familiar on assessment day.

How to solve each type

Your preparation path

  1. Take the full mock exam to see how you do against the clock across several categories. Go to the mock exam
  2. Take exam-mode tests in the categories closest to your assessment. See the tests
  3. Choose the job type in your report. See a sample report

The report organizes your practice by job type; it does not predict your result on TestGorilla.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a TestGorilla assessment take?

It depends on the tests the company chooses. Most cognitive tests list about 10 minutes each, and an assessment can include several. Your invitation shows the estimated time.

Can I practice with the real TestGorilla tests?

No. The platform keeps questions and answers hidden, and practice accounts are not available to candidates. What you can do is practice similar formats with original material.

What happens if I leave full screen?

The platform logs that kind of signal and rates it by risk level, but says it reflects behavior and is not proof of cheating. Even so, the safest choice is to stay in full screen during the tests.

Can I retake a test if it goes badly?

According to the platform, it detects attempts to register for a second try and blocks them. Treat each assessment as a single opportunity and prepare beforehand.

Do personality tests have correct answers?

There is no universal correct answer. The employer interprets the profile against the role. Answering consistently and honestly is what serves you best.
