Four Decks

Find out which decks pay off

What it practices

Learning from outcomes and choosing where to persist.

How to play

  1. Tap a deck to flip a card and see how many points it adds.
  2. Some cards also take points away: watch how the balance changes.
  3. Try other decks: some pay better over time. The game ends on its own.

About this game

This game is inspired by a public task from experimental psychology about choosing when outcomes are uncertain and learning from what happens. It is an original version made for this site, not the task itself.

When you finish, the summary of your play style shows which end of the "Learning" bar your way of playing leans toward in this session: "Sticks with the familiar" or "Explores options". It is not a score or a percentile, it does not compare you with other people, and neither end is better than the other.
